This post will be of interest to a very few of my friends/followers but i have to share. At bridge this afternoon I had one of the most exciting hands I have ever had. Seven diamonds headed by the A K Q J. The AKQ of spades. A void. And an outside ace. In other words, eleven tricks.
The sensible bid would have been five diamonds, a lay down. I chose to open six.
My partner had only the useless queen of hearts - and the same number of cards in each outside suit that I had. One less club and I'd have made the slam. Soooo close.
Sometimes one needs to take a chance.
